Weddings – Do you take your toddler?

How do you find weddings with a toddler? Exhausting? Hard? Enjoyable? We’ve been to 3 weddings with Luca from the ages of 4 months to 2 years old, all of which were totally different experiences.

Personally I’d say the hardest time is right before they’re walking. They’re into everything, want to crawl everywhere, explore, touch, etc… so your job is to ensure they don’t do too much damage to their surroundings and also to themselves. At 11 months old sitting quietly in a church isn’t really a viable options, so I actually missed the ceremony of the wedding we went to with Luca at 11 months. He wasn’t feeling the church, so after 10 minutes I took him out to explore the grounds, much more fun. We always try to be led by the little one, if he doesn’t want to sit quietly in a church then that’s fine, we’ll go out and explore.

The older they get the more fun it becomes, they can engage with others, explore on their feet, play with the others kids, it’s great. Don’t get me wrong, it’s exhausting as you never have time to switch off and you aren’t able to have a conversation longer than 5 minutes, without having to run after your toddler. But seeing them enjoy themselves makes it all worth it.

Let me know how you get on with toddler life at weddings? Is it something you do? Or is it easier to avoid, go alone and get on the beer ??
